Welcome Walkthroughs January 2023
We had such a great time traveling around Tasmania, researching eco-tourism offerings and recharging after a tough tour (we both got quite sick) in Southeast Asia.

Curious about the farm or the farmers? Here's some answers to questions that keep coming up.
These days there's so much buzz and excitement about regenerative agriculture, permaculture, biodiversity, rewilding and all sorts of other exciting efforts to mitigate the very real threat of climate change. Damon and Dee view their role as kaitiaki and hosts for this project and neither of them aspire to be seen as experts of any kind. What they both definitely are though, is hopeful and curious. Therefore, the best use of the 50 acre farm that they are focused on nurturing and welcoming guests to experience is going to be based in curiosity. There's enough diversity and space to plan and implement a number of biodiversity, energy, and creative experiments and experiences. We want to invite other curious people to join the journey and, if there's enough synergy and a great case, try things on the property in the spirit of discovery, creativity and science. We already know we will be embarking on and collecting rigorous data for a banana plantation, micro hydro project, zero waste initiative, commercial composting, and art installations. This constant curiosity and respect for the scientific processes of observation and data collection are what makes this an experimental farm.
You can hire the main house (treehouse) for events and accommodation. We are also building a glamping site that will open early in 2022 farther up the hill that will host couples in serene and splendid luxury and seclusion. Rates vary seasonably and depending on when in the week you book. There will be various opportunities to tour the farm and learn from some of the many experts we are working alongside. Working bees, planting events and farm tours and workshops will be published on our calendar. Bookings essential, even for free events, so please check out what is coming up come join the journey.
The farm is a private property, based among many other semi-rural private properties. The magic of this maunga is that our guests feel like they are transported to another world far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and it is only an hour from Auckland central. As such, we are very particular and protective about who we welcome onto the farm, and bookings are absolutely essential.
Heartache and Cheesecake is still in a very embryonic phase as a social enterprise. We know that there's an appetite for women to mentor and encourage other women through change, and we are excited to get together with some powerful wahine to discuss the direction this entity will take moving forward.
We have potential to take up to three groups through for facilitated team-building/planting sessions this September/October. Groups of between 10 and 30 guests can spend the day on the farm and leave a legacy of native trees to feed bees. The package also includes catering and, if requested, facilitation.
